Farndon is a quite Cheshire village 7 miles to the south of Chester near the A534 and 4 miles off the A41. The village has an interesting history. During the English civil war both sides fought for control of the bridge crossing the Dee in Wales and the village of Holt just across the river. Close to the bridge there is a picnic area and a sandstone cliff. The parish church of St Chad's contains a rare 17th Century Civil war memorial window. Made in 1662 after the restoration of Charles II measuring 30 by 20 inches, it depicts gentlemen like Sir Francis Gamul and soldiers and equipment from the period. Also depicted in the window is William Lawes playing a flute. He was personal musician to King Charles the First and was killed in Chester during the battle of Rowton Moor by musket shot.
