Pictures from The Great Orme / Y Gogarth, Llandudno
The great Orme is a limestone head of land sticking out into the sea to the left of the bay of Llandudno. On the opposite site of the bay is a similar piece of land called the little orme.
The great Orme has a two stage tramway to the Summit. At the summit there is a small visitor centre and a leisure complex. You can park on the summit or choose to explore it on foot by footpath. But be careful there are some sharp drops into the sea.
The tram starts just a little walk uphill from the front. Liquid refreshment can be found in the nearby Kings Head Pub.
The Bottom Tram station and Pub.
Ancient Copper Mines half way up near the Half Way Station. On a clear day you can see Anglesey and Puffin Island.
At the Summit station there is a visitor centre and a wild flower garden. There is a statue of the famous great orme wild Kashmiri goats put on the orme by Lord Mostyn
A Sample Limestone bolder containing the precious Copper Ore Malachite. This is what the bronze age miners were after. Also a Cable car system is in operation.
The Ancient St Tudno's Church and modern cemetery.
Summit views explained thanks to the AA at 679 Feet above sea level.
There is a map of the Great Orme at the rear of the visitor Centre. A view back into the Bay.
