Roman Fort Project


Now open to the public in 2025.

The Roman Fort Project is established as a not for profit social enterprise with charitable status.
It seeks establish a national centre for excellence, experimentation and experiential learning in Roman and iron age life, culture and environment.
This set within a 1st century environment including flora fauna and wildlife.
It will include the ongoing reconstruction of a period Roman fort, iron age farmstead.
Applying ancient agricultural methods, crops and domesticated livestock to that era.
Once the project secures the land further information will be available.

Time travel back 2000 years ago.

The Roman Army has arrived, and they're building their fort.
Wander through the immersive living history camp, meet Roman Legionaries and Auxiliaries from across the Roman Empire.
Discover how they live and work, watch them train for battle, and build their Fort, here in Decanglii territory - what will the Britons think ?
Join in the kids Roman Army and learn how to fight in the Legions, get dressed for battle by trying on some armour.
Learn your Optio from your elbow, and find out what the different helmet crests mean.
Have you got what it takes to join the might of Rome ?

The ancient annual Roman Mid Winter festival of Saturnalia.
Revived in Chester with a Roman soldier torch lit parade.
The Saturnalia parade joins forces with the Winter Watch parade after the lighting of the four torches ceremony outside Browns of Chester.
