Watergate Street is one of the most beautiful streets in Chester. It extends from the Cross at the centre of Chester to the Watergate and Chester Racecourse to the west, in turn dropping 50 feet in height. Watergate Street follows the line of the Roman street 'via principalis' upto the inner ring road, which was the limit of the Roman Fortress. The Street contains many interesting buildings dating from the around 1600 including 'Bishop Lloyds Palace', a fine half-timbered building and Old Leche House to many fine Georgian buildings like Booth Mansion. The street is also home to Gods Providence House.

MD's has been running for over 8 years and trades in the evenings only, Wednesday - Saturday 5pm - 9.30pm as it runs during the day as its alter ego Katie's Tea Rooms. MD's operates within a C14th, Grade II listed building. It's original use was as a Merchants house, hence the surroundings are very atmospheric. The seating area is set within original sandstone walls and oak beams. Throughout the building many other original features remain such as exposed Wattle & Daub and original wide oak studded doors.

Near the end of Watergate Street is the Guildhall. The former church of the Holy Trinity is now the Guildhall of the Freemen and Guilds of Chester.
From Medieval times, the guilds regulated trade in the City and produced the famous Mystery Plays until 1575. The original church was built 1865 - 69 to the
design of the Chester Architect James Harrison.
Situated some 200 meters from Chester Cross, this fine mid-nineteenth century sandstone church was offered to the Freemen & Guilds of Chester in the early 1960's.
The nave was converted into an impressive Main Hall with oak panelled walls and a stage, thus creating an ideal venue for a variety of functions from tea and dinner dances, lectures and discos to concerts wedding receptions and formal banquets.
The following maximum numbers will include staff as well as guests: For the more informal dinner or dinner/dance the Main Hall can be set out with round tables; or for that formal banquet a top table with sprigs. For such functions guests are limited to a maximum of 180 persons. With linked upholstered chairs an audience of 200 persons can be seated comfortably. The Main Hall floor is excellent for dancing and there is "sound-around" audio equipment . A loop system is in operation for the hard of hearing. A further carpeted Lower Hall is available for classes, discussion groups, smaller dinner parties and mini-conferences. This has a maximum capacity of 70 persons. A well-equipped kitchen is available for the preparation of food, with catering by outside companies. There is a licensed bar. A paved ramp to the main entrance affords easy access for those confined to wheelchairs. Accommodation is normally available from 8:00 am. Smoking is prohibited throughout the Guildhall.
