Roman Ford <<< Back This was once one of the main gateways into the Roman Fortress of Dewa. In Roman times travellers from London and Wroxceter in the south, would approach the Fortress from Waltling Street in the south pass the Minerva shrine. Make an offering for a safe crossing and cross the ford. Then cross towards the official Roman Taverna to the south outside the fortress. This picture was taken at a low spring tide.
