For beer-lovers, this pub should be a place of great worship and the utmost respect, since there are nine different real ales being kept in the cellars at any one time - each well chosen from near and far to provide a wide range of different strengths and tastes.
They really know how to look after their beers at 'The Shrew', and the ales are served in tip-top condition, with at least three beers ready to serve at the pumps at any one time, always crystal-clear, delicious and fragrant - and as if that's not sufficient confirmation that this is a proper English pub, they put on great home-cooked food throughout the week, with an absolutely delicious three-course meal for just £11.95 on Monday and Tuesday, plus a brilliant Sunday roast with all the trimmings - and you must try their twice-cooked lamb shank for a real melt-in-the-mouth feast. We also highly recommend the traditional fish and chips with mushy peas - elevated to haute cuisine the way it's prepared and presented here - and there are some great desserts on offer as well.
For those of you who are history-lovers, there's the fascinating local story of two highwaymen being hung from the neighbourhood gibbet in 1796.
Three cheers for the traditional English pub, alive and vibrant right here in the heart of Mickle Trafford. One not to miss.
