GladfestGladfest 2019 www.gladstoneslibrary.org/GladFest Gladstone’s Library is fast becoming the place to go for anyone who enjoys reading or creative writing so we have decided to bring you GladFest - a literary festival to bring together writers and readers – in fact, anyone who loves books - in the glorious setting of Britain’s only residential library. We are delighted to bring back to the Library many of our favourite authors, along with a few new faces who we are sure will be returning to us time and time again. We hope you will join us for this celebration of reading and creative writing, of books and their authors. Help us put Hawarden on the festival map and make GladFest an annual event in the literary calendar. On Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th September, the Gladstone Room will be open for reading throughout the day: bring your own book – or borrow one of ours – choose a squidgy leather armchair or sofa, then sit back, relax and read. A selection of tea and coffee – not to mention our delicious homemade cakes - will be available from Food for Thought between 10.00am-4.00pm with lunch being served between 12.00pm-3.00pm. Waterstones will be selling books by the authors taking part in the Festival in the Anwyl Room on Saturday and Sunday. Check out our GladFest Guide, with helpful information about travelling to Gladstone's Library, parking arrangements and food and drink at the event. Tickets for most events are £5.00 unless otherwise stated. Concessionary rates are available. Please contact Reception for details. To book tickets, call 01244 532 350 or email enquiries@gladlib.org or call in at Reception. |

Deva Triathlon2020 TBA The Deva Triathlon is an Olympic distance triathlon held in the centre of the historic City of Chester. It is currently in its 15th Year and is run by the City of Chester triathlon club members. This year we are excited to be moving the race right into the centre of the City. Transition will be located in the fabulous Grosvenor Park, a fantastic Victorian Park. The new bike route will be a single lap into Wales via Eccleston, Rossett and Borras and back into Chester via Alford and Boughton. The run route will now incorporate running over the Old Dee Bridge as well as the suspension bridge, along the Groves with the finish being at the Bandstand, a truly City Centre race. |

St. John's Project
![]() | St. John's Projectwww.thesjp.com The SJP Project is an ambitious Chester based community project to make two of Britain's most important churches sustainable as multifunctional, community focused buildings. Visiting is the only way to truly experience the churches of St John's and St Peter's of Chester. St John's Project is an exciting new project that has an initial aim to restore the churches of St Johns and St Peters collectively. Enthusiastic volunteers are busy every single day to establish both the churches not only as places of worship but as historic marvels that can be enjoyed by everyone. SJP is essentially an organisation that provides a service for the community- we want both St John's and St Peter's to be there for future generations! Both churches get thousands of visitors every year, help us welcome and accommodate them by joining our team- visit our 'Contact Us' page. We would like to welcome everyone from in and around Chester, and would like to stress that the church is for community usage- faith or no faith! |
