Bonewaldesthorne's Tower
Bonewaldesthorne's Tower is said to be named after an officer in the army of Aethelflaed, daughter of Alfred the Great.
Aethelflaed rebuilt Chester's walls during Saxon times around 907 A.D.extending them to the edge of the river on the South and Western sides of the old Roman fortress.
She is also credited with the foundation of St Peter's church at the Cross.
Bonewaldesthorne's Tower is square and contains two floors. It is now only open a few days a year for health and safety reasons. The only access to the tower is by the doorway at walls level.
