Prestatyn Live Weather
Rhyl & Prestatyn are the major holiday resorts of the North Wales coast in the UK.
The towns lie in shadow of the Snowdon mountains and Denbighshire hills & resulting in a climate all of their own! The unique position leads to
lower than average rainfall for such a westerly position of the UK, the mountains absorbing moisture before it arrives. Overall,
temperatures are favourable, there can be extremes though, local records have peaked at 34'c (93'f) and plummeted to -13'c(9'f)
during the last century. Snow is rarely a problem except in the harshest winters and even then the set up has to be exact with cold air
arriving from the east from over land areas mixing with moisture from the sea. The area is naturally windy, our bit of the world juts out
into the sea so sometimes it's rather like being on board a cruise ship! Occasionally the wind can be in the wrong direction at the wrong time,
such as 26-28 February 1990 when a northerly gale combined with unusually high spring tides brought the sea over the defences causing serious
flooding along the coast. Towyn was devastated, parts of Rhyl & Prestatyn suffered severe damage too. Thankfully these events are rare and chances
of a repeat minimal following vast improvements to defences after the floods. So, with its outstanding beaches, beautiful scenery and a unique climate,
the area is a pleasant place for residents & visitors alike
