The Frozen Mop
| About The Frozen MopThe Frozen Mop in Mobberley is a country pub & restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.
Ask locals how the Frozen Mop got its unusual name and no two people will give you the same answer. Some tell you the story of a lady who used to let her lover know the coast was clear by leaving a mop outside at night. Others claim a local rugby team used to jog past the same frozen mop week after week in the winter, and soon started referring to their favourite pub as The Frozen Mop. Either way, it's a beautiful old Cheshire pub set in a timeless village that dates back to the Doomsday Book.
Nestled between the quaint cobbled streets of Knutsford and the dramatic red sandstone scenery of Alderley Edge, Mobberley is ideal for anyone who loves fine food, walking or idyllic country retreats. It's also a short drive from some of the area's most intriguing historic sites, including the glorious 19th century deer park of Tatton and the finely preserved industrial heritage site of Quarry Bank Mill.
Book a table online, or make the best of the British weather by lingering over a relaxing drink in our pretty beer garden.
Discover your perfect country pub. Take a trip to discover The Frozen Mop, a pub in Mobberley with rural charm and rustic character by the bucket-load. You'll find us near peaceful countryside, close to Knutsford, Wilmslow and Altrincham. Pop in for a pint of well-kept cask ale or a book a table for a hearty bite to eat.

Excellent homemade food
The pubs name comes from a story dating back to the English Civil War. Squire Joseph Hockenhull fled his house with the family treasure, when roundhead troops came to arrest him, leaving only the house keeper behind, her name was Grace Trigg. Frustrated in not bring able to find the squire or the loot they cut off the head of the house keeper. She went on to haunt the area minus the head.

Best Pub 2011
Voted 12th in the Morning Advertier's Top 20 Pubs in the Country
Ring O’ Bells is located in the heart of the pretty village of Christleton near Chester, one of Cheshire’s most beautiful. The pub has just undergone a full refurbishment & is now a shining example of a 21st Century country pub. New meets old & contemporary meets traditional in a relaxed environment where everyone can enjoy the very best in food & drink A wide range of high quality drinks are available with a bespoke wine list from Bibendum of London alongside a selection of hand pulled cask ales. Our menu consists of our take on gastro pub classics for example Beer Battered Fish & Chips as well as some of the things we at MBT do so well at our other pubs (excuse the blowing of trumpets) such as our home made hand stretched stone baked pizzas.
The exterior of the pub has also been transformed. The garden now has three areas; an alfresco dining terrace, a decked “sun trap” and a family lawn with picnic tables & children’s play area. At Ring O’ Bells customers enjoy a relaxed atmosphere & a friendly buzz. It's the kind of place where conversation & laughter flow easily, where new acquaintances are made & where great evenings occur spontaneously. In a nutshell Ring O’ Bells is a welcoming pub in a beautiful Cheshire village combining high class food with the finest wines and beers, making it well worth a visit time & time again! Ring O’ Bells has chosen Children Today also located in the village as their Charity to support for 3008-09

The Shrewsbury Arms
|
The Shrewsbury ArmsWarrington Road Mickle Trafford Chester CH2 4EB 01244 300 309
http://www.traditional-pub-food.com
Sold as part of the Earl of Shrewsbury’s estate in 1917, The Shrew as it was then known was lot number 68, consisting of 21 acres, 2 roads and 26 perches.
The pub was then let to a West Cheshire brewery for an annual rent of just £90.
Highwaymen operated along this road, the old main route from Chester to Manchester, and on the 6th April 1796, Thomas Brown and James Price tied up and robbed a fifteen-year-old mail-boy.
He freed himself and ran to the tollgate opposite the Shrewsbury Arms. The robbers were caught in Birmingham and brought back to Mickle Trafford where they were hung in Gibbets Field.
Today, the Shrewsbury Arms is a picturesque pub, which has been carefully restored to what the traditional pub used to be. Genuine oak beams, flagstone floors and attractive rugs, the cosy glow of a real log fire and English Cask Ales.
Generous platefuls of delicious, home-cooked food complimented by old-fashioned service and values and the attentiveness that will take you back to days when hospitality really meant something.
