Chester Festival of the Bible 2025
October 2025 Month Long

What it is: A city-wide event bringing together Christian churches to display Bibles and explore their significance.
A month-long exhibition exploring the nature, content, and translation of sacred texts.

The Chester Festival of the Bible in October 2025 includes Chester Cathedral's month-long exhibition,
"Translating the Sacred," which explores the nature, translation, and interpretation of religious texts using their historical library collection.
Including a medieval Bible and the textile Holy Writ.
The festival is a city-wide initiative involving Christian churches, and the cathedral's exhibition runs from October 1st-31st, with a lecture on October 30th.

A free lecture, also called "Translating the Sacred," will take place on October 30th 2025, at 1:00 PM, with no booking required.

Join us this summer as we celebrate 200 years of railways at Chester Cathedral.
Explore our interactive family fun 72ft OO gauge model of Watford Junction, and even jump in the drivers seat.
We’re thrilled to announce the return of our layout to the stunning Chester Cathedral, running from 24th July to 30th August.
As we celebrate Railway 200, marking 200 years of rail travel, our extended 72ft-long Watford Junction model will take you on a journey through the development of our railways.
We’ve got plenty of exciting new features in store, and some special friends joining us this year. Keep an eye on this page for updates and surprises.

The layout will not operate on Sundays Amen.

Peace Doves by Peter Walker

Chester Cathedral is honoured to host Peace Doves, an extraordinary installation artwork by internationally acclaimed sculptor Peter Walker.
This impactful installation, featuring thousands of paper doves decorated with messages of peace.
Peace Doves is a large-scale artwork inviting communities to reflect on the values of peace, unity, and harmony.
Each dove carries a unique message, written by visitors, schoolchildren, and community groups.
And together they form a breathtaking installation that offers a serene space for contemplation and hope.
Bathed in gentle, evocative lighting and accompanied by an original score by David Harper.
The exhibit transforms the venue into a sanctuary of quiet reflection.

Bringing Peace to Our Community
Local community members, schoolchildren, and various groups are invited to participate in decorating their own paper doves.
Adding their messages of peace and personal reflections.
This unique opportunity enables participants to engage with art as a means of expression.
Contributing their voices to the collective work. Chester Cathedral also encourages schools.
And community groups to create their own smaller Peace Doves displays.
Bringing the project’s message of unity and tranquility into classrooms and community spaces.

An Artist Dedicated to Public and Fine Art
Peter Walker is a renowned sculptor and fine artist whose works have been displayed in public and private collections worldwide.
Including the British Embassy in Paris, the University Church in Oxford.
And St. Chad's Cathedral in Canada. Over his 20-year career.
Walker has developed a distinct voice in public and monumental art, creating powerful, reflective spaces that engage viewers.
And build connections across communities.
Following successful exhibitions at venues including Liverpool, Chichester, Lincoln, and Durham Cathedrals.
Peace Doves continues its national tour with this installation at Chester Cathedral.
Bringing with it the spirit of peace and the power of shared hope.

Peace Doves will be open for viewing at Chester Cathedral.
From 2nd May to 17th June and is open during Cathedral's normal operating hours.
Visitors are encouraged to explore the scale and beauty of the artwork, to take a moment of stillness.
And to appreciate the personal messages shared by people from all walks of life.
Each message on the doves represents a piece of a greater call for peace, making this installation a truly unique experience.

As part of the 2020 theme of journeys, we’ll be looking at aspects of our own inner journeys and will be hosting a series of events in
collaboration with The Bodhi Tree Studios to explore this. Join us and Yoga teacher Emma for an hour’s yoga practice in this unique and beautiful space.
This class is based on physical postures (asanas), deep breathing, mindfulness and listening to the body.
It is suitable for all abilities and perfect for those who want to learn the fundamental poses in yoga.
