St Olave's Old Church (Closed to the Public)

ST OLAV PILGRIMAGE with a definite 2020 look about it
29th July St. Olav's day

10 pilgrims (including 3 from Wirral's Viking Navy) made it this year - the 13th year of the Wirral-Chester St Olav Viking walk and Pilgrimage. We finished at the St. Olave Church and Karl talked about St. Olav and Olave's Church. Pilgrims then had to put up with me (Tranmere face mask) explaining and then singing the Norwegian national anthem (the 1st verse) - Ja vi elsker dette landet.
This was followed by a prayer and a minutes silence remembering all those people - most of them teenagers - who tragically lost their lives in those horrendous killings on the Norwegian island of Utoya, 22 July 2011. We finished with a poem by Karl.

The Norwegian anthem closes with this wonderful line: og dem saganatt som senker, drømmer på vår jord.. "and the saga-night that lays dreams upon our earth".

Gamul House

Gamul House is so named after the influential Gamull family who once owned the hall. The hall contains some interesting architectural features like a large sandstone fireplace. The hall was once an external courtyard, which has since been enclosed, and retains some external windows inside the hall. Gamul House is now a pub called The Brewery Tap. The blue plaque on the wall reads: Gamul House Behind this brick facade is a Jacobean Hall, Once the home of The Gamull Family.
